Recommended Clothes/Packing Tips
Because of Ogontz's location in New Hampshire's White Mountain region, the temperatures often vary from day to day or daytime to nighttime. Some days it is hot (rarely humid) and sunny, others a little chilly. Daytime temperatures are usually in the 70s and 80s, but at night it can sometimes get quite cool.
We recommend you check with your camp about exact bedding provided, but bringing an extra blanket with your gear can't hurt if you are staying in an outdoor cabin. If your camp is not providing bedding, bring a sleeping bag, pillow, sheets and blankets. If it does get really cold at night, the camp does have extra blankets available.
Bring a flashlight. Camp has one lone street light on lower campus, so it can get quite dark once the sun goes down. It's great for looking at stars, but tough to walk around. We have a wonderful lake to swim in, so bring your swimsuit and towel. In addition to regular summer clothes (shorts, tshirts), bring a raincoat, sweatshirt or sweater, good shoes to walk around in, and shower/bathroom gear. You might want to bring a small battery powered alarm clock or watch to help you get up on time.
Other things to know
You will really feel like you are cut off from the modern world while at camp! We try our best to provide you with a relaxing and enjoyable camp experience. Once you park your car, you should not need it until you are ready to leave. We do not provide daily newspapers or have televisions or radios. There is a phone available for your use while at camp. You will need a calling card to use it. Wireless phones have a hard time working on the campus, there are a few places where we get slight signals, but if you drive a short way down Lyman Road, there is an area where the signal gets stronger. Check with one of our staff members at camp for more details. Regular first class US Mail is available at camp everyday except Sunday. Federal Express and UPS also services Ogontz when needed or making a delivery.
The Ogontz General Store is a great place to pick up phone cards, toiletries, snacks, as well as a wide variety of Ogontz souveniers and merchandise. For other needs, there are some large stores (Wal-Mart, Shaws, Lowes, Staples) about fifteen minutes away in Littleton, NH.
See the Frequently Asked Question section for more information on coming to camp, including dining schedules and dining questions. See Facilities for housing information.
